35 WOOD ROAD

CLIENT: PRIVATE
LOCATION: WALLEY RANGE, MANCHESTER | UK
PROJECT TYPE: RECONFIGURATION OF KITCHEN
YEAR: 2014
STATUS: FEASIBILITY STUDY

The owners of a Victorian detached house in a leafy South Manchester suburb were looking for ideas to reconfigure their existing kitchen and living room at the back of the property into a flexible space more suitable to their needs as a family with two children. The ambition was to make better use of the available space, to improve connections between kitchen and dining room, to enhance links with the garden and to maximise the south facing aspect and its potential for natural light.

Based on a budget of £20,000 - £30,000 we produced a feasibility study to draw up a series of potential options to realise their vision of a flexible family room linked to a kitchen-diner. The design proposals stretched from minimal intervention to closest match of the brief and required a varying degree of physical alteration, from relocating doors, removing chimneys, to removing walls and existing extension to add new extension, WC and large decked outdoor area.

The document visualised the spatial potential, offered some inspiration for finishes and products and provided a very basic outline of works required which could be used to get rough quotes and start initial discussions with builders or suppliers.
